Having ordinary plants at home is nice. But have you ever had plants that actually do a job?

There are plants out there that purify the air in your surroundings.

Some scientists have suggested that choosing the right air purifying plants for your home can help detoxify the air in your living spaces, meaning your houseplants not only look lovely but work a little harder to clean the air you breathe in.

To give your home a healthy breath of fresh air, here’s our list of the best air purifying plants and where to keep them…

BARBERTON DAISY

Not only does this flower add colour do your place but also is an effective cleanser of the toxins formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and benzene, found in a range of household materials from paints to synthetic fibres.

SNAKE PLANT OR MOTHER-IN-LAW’S TONGUE

This plants releases air that not only purifies your air but also helps you sleep better at night.

The plant should be watered only when dry and fed four times between early spring and late summer, using a soluble fertilizer.

ALOE VERA

A healing aloe plant is a lovely addition to your kitchen windowsill, as it loves a sunny spot. While being on hand to soothe any kitchen burns, this succulent will be purifying the air of formaldehyde and benzene, found in varnishes, floor finishes, and detergents. And addition to this, it’s also a good skin care products.

Spider plants

Not only do they  grow quickly and look all pretty in your lounge but also takes the pollutants out of the air.

Spider plants have more than 200 species and many of them can survive a little forgetfulness from us.

Boston Fern

These plants prefer to clean the air from a cool location with high humidity and indirect light. They’re relatively easy to grow, but they do need to stay moist. Check your Boston fern’s soil daily to see if it needs water and give it a good soak once per month.
