Announced by the Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul, this ban is to be implemented after the 14th of August this year and will be a ground breaking initiative. As we all know, due to the rapid increase in population and the rural to urban migration in the capital, the city has been combating environmental hazards.
The Minister also added that approximately 5000 cotton bags have been circulated among government employees as an alternative to plastic bags and to encourage nature-friendly products. These cotton bags will be available free of cost in weekly bazaars and markets following the implementation of the ban. This way, citizens from any strata of the society can develop an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Moreover, environmental movements taking place online on the worldwide web have paved the way for legislative measures against the threats that plague our natural habitats and several ecosystems. Therefore, social media has been of great assistance to environment activists globally and the new wave of movements regarding social issues should be welcomed and promoted.
