US-Pak join hands to tackle insurgency in Afghanistan, strengthen bilateral ties?

In this episode of Zoom-In, Imtiaz Gul analyses the growing ties between the US and Pakistan to counter terrorist organisations in Afghanistan. Al-Qaeda’s founding leader – Dr.Ayman al-Zawahiri, killed in a drone strike early this month, was also found residing in an upscale area of Kabul. This, says Gul, also defied the Doha Peace Agreement, in which the Afghan Taliban had promised to prevent Al-Qaeda and terrorist organisations from using the Afghan soil for terrorist activities against other countries. The latest twist , Gul points out, is the threat by Mullah Hibatullah the Taliban chief. A resolution passed at a gathering in the presence of Hibbatullah on Thursday (August 18) the Taliban chief threatened Pakistan with consequences if it continued to allow their air and space for anti-terror operations on the Afghan soil.
