Turkey declares a level 4 emergency as the first 7.8 magnitude earthquake wiped out entire sections of major Turkish cities; the second 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit southeast Turkey yesterday. More than 4,300 people have died and thousands more hurt after the massive earthquake. The magnitude 7.8 quake was one of the strongest to strike the area in more than a century. Amid severe aftershocks, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) has declared level 4 emergency and has called for international help.
President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif have expressed their heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in earthquake in Turkey.
Many organizations including, The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says it is “launching immediate cash assistance” from its Disaster Response Emergency Fund to help relief efforts in both countries.

The Union of Medical Care and Relief Organisations (UOSSM) – has put out an urgent call to the international community to release emergency funds to provide aid and rescue resources immediately. In a statement, the UOSSM said its hospitals and medical facilities are overwhelmed and will need support to ensure lives are saved during this crisis.
