Samsung plans to make a buttonless phone in the future, claims a tipster named Connor on Twitter. The South Korean phone maker’s next-generation phones may ship without the power button or volume rocker that some concept phones have tried before.

Huawei also tried to remove the volume buttons from the side, but not the power button. The Huawei Mate 30 had virtual volume buttons that worked by tapping the side of the screen. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to remove all buttons and will use software functions for the power and volume buttons.

This change will not affect future S23 series. Rumor has it that the Galaxy S25 will be the first phone without buttons. According to Samsung’s usual roadmap, its lineup is two years from launch. It could also be in the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 phones.

It’s too early to say, but sources say that Samsung’s buttonless phones may be reserved for businesses, while phones sold to regular customers have regular buttons.

This change may not be welcomed by many, as many prefer physical buttons on their phones to virtual alternatives. Even simple functions are subject to potential bugs. For example, the Huawei Mate 30’s virtual volume buttons weren’t as consistent as the regular buttons, which many people didn’t appreciate.

However, if Samsung’s implementation is optimized enough to give consistent results, it may be accepted by the masses.

Either way, it’s still unconfirmed, so it’s best to get a rough idea of the information.
