Woes of Drivers and their assistants transporting Afghan transit cargo between Karachi, Pakistan’s main port on the Arabian Sea, and Torkham, one of the two oldest international crossing points, continue because of extremely slow passage – nearly 200 containers – every day.
Here is what this driver said when asked about his Afghan transit cargo predicament:
This is a ground in Jamrud. We are stuck here, the road is completely blocked.
We have been here at Matni since 23rd August, it’s been 13 days since we arrived here. We are all tired. No rest at all in this hot weather. No hotel or mosque nearby. We are carrying someone else’s consignments and it’s also deteriorating . We are very much troubled and in difficult situations. No one paying any attention to our troubles, and we are asking this question to solve this problem.
