More than a year after Elon Musk promised the world a battery that would run the Tesla cars for a million miles, Tesla has finally found a breakthrough. The Electric Vehicle batteries (EV batteries) only help the Tesla for half a million miles, whereas the new batteries would double that range.

Research on the new battery began when Tesla made an exclusive research deal with the battery researchers Dalhousie University to work on the project. They published their research findings in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society where they discussed a lithium-ion battery that can “power an electric vehicle for over a million miles.”

Jeff Dahn, the physicist that led the research, also showed that this particular lithium-ion battery would work far better than the regular one. This could potentially result in more power to Tesla’s electric trucks and cars. Tesla can find more uses of this – batteries for much larger projects and ventures.

What is even more exciting is that Dahn does not hide the facts and findings of the research, so that other companies and organizations can use this research to make similar products, further expanding on the research. They give complete details in the reports, however, Tesla has already patented the technology.
