March 25, 2021 proved to be a black day for Pakistani showbiz industry as the legendary dramatist and playwright Haseena Moin breathed her last. Though she had been suffering from breast cancer for the past few years, the cause of her death has not been identified yet. According to sources, her funeral prayer will be conducted today after Asar prayers.
Moin was an internationally praised writer who wrote several plays for the theater, radio and television which gained international repute. Ankahi, Tanhaiyaan, Dhoop Kinaray, Aahat, Uncle Urfi, Shehzori, Kohar, Des Pardes, Pal Do Pal, Aansoo, Kasak, Parchaiyan, and Parosi are among many of her popular Pakistani dramas. Moreover, she was the writer of Pakistan’s first original script ‘Kiran Kahani’ aired in the early-1970s.
Moin received the Pride of Performance award for her services towards performing arts in Pakistan, and was a nationally and internationally celebrated writer, hence condolences poured in from all corners over the sad departure of the renowned dramatist.
Her sudden demise has left open an unfillable void in the drama industry as despite the mushrooming growth of script writers, the quality of drama has been on a constant decline. With the loss of another gem from the industry, one hopes that the new generation of writers understand the responsibility on their shoulders and tries to create unique pieces of art which help in uplifting the society and spread the message of peace and harmony so that societal evils like gender inequality, religious and ideological extremism etc. can be eliminated.
