Matrix Report
Matrix Media reported heavy fires in the Amazon Rainforest in September. Since then, the matter has not deescalated. The fires have not been contained. Even with the support and aid from the International community, we see no progress. So far, since we reported, the Amazon has had over 19,000 fires in the two months of September and October.
French President Emmanuel Macron was the first to declare this a matter of urgency and emergency. The world raised millions of dollars in aid, with ample human resource that would have helped put out the fire.
Even with the immense amount out of help, the Amazon Rainforest burns at an alarming rate. The rate of fires has dropped by 35%, however that is not nearly enough to curb the issue. The Amazon is important for the entire world. It contains 90-140 billion metric tons of carbon that stabilizes the local and global climate. It is home to thousands of different species of insects, birds and animals. If the fires are not contained in the next 2 years, that could mean irreparable and irreversible damage to the climate.
Right now, the Amazon still burns, but the rain helps contain a small percentage of the fires. Clearing land in the Amazon with the use of fires has been banned by the Brazilian President. This has helped decrease the rate of fires. A lot of work has to be done; major resources have to be allocated to make sure that the rain forest is sustained.
