23-year-old transgender activist Sarah Gill has made her mark in the history for becoming the first Transgender doctor. Dr. Sarah Gill received her education from Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) which is an affiliate institution of Karachi University.
“I feel proud to become the first transgender doctor of Pakistan,” Sarah said.
“Being transgender, I faced many serious problems in my education but I never lost my courage,” she said. “I would ask all transgender persons to come forward in the field of education,” she added. “I have worked really hard to become a doctor. With hard work and dedication everything can be achieved.”
As reported, Sarah Gill has also joined the membership of various organizations. Sarah Gill intends to use her profession for the welfare and prosperity of other transgender persons.
In a conversation with Dunya News, Sarah Gill shared how “No one can stop you from achieving something if you’re passionate about it. There are difficulties in life. I wanted to make Pakistan famous and my parents have also accepted me after I became a doctor.”
In 2020, Pakistani transgender Aisha Mughal was declared one of the most successful transgender persons in the world for the year 2020 who made history by representing Pakistan at United Nations as part of the official delegation.
Another noticeable achievement in 2020 was for Nisha Rao, a transgender activist and now a lawyer, became the first transgender law graduate in Pakistan and recently she became the Pakistan’s first transgender student to have been granted admission into an MPhil programme to study law at Karachi University.
The change and acceptance for transgender community has although been very slow but these achievements are a testament to a better future for transgender community in Pakistan.
