Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora has the honour to be the first Sikh becoming a member of the parliament after the partition of the Sub-continent and creation of Pakistan. He has been a member of the Punjab assembly on a reserved seat for minorities from PMLN since 2013.

Sardar Ramesh Arora has been in the development sector before joining politics and describes himself as a social reformist. He worked with local NGOs and with the World Bank. He also founded an NGO in Narowal, his hometown to help his community develop.

Sardar Arora takes a lot of pride in getting the Sikh Marriage Act passed from the Punjab assembly. He says it is a great achievement for the Sikh community in Pakistan that during his tenure Pakistan has become the first country in the world to have the Sikh Marriage Act available for registration of marriages of Sikhs. He says, not other country has till now granted this right to its Sikh population.

India, he says that has a large Sikh population does not give this right to its Sikh community and marriages are registered under the Hindu Marriage Act.

He believes that Pakistan gives a lot of respect and full rights to its Sikh population. Unlike India, where till date the Sikh community is described as a caste of Hindusim, Sikhs in Pakistan enjoy full freedom and security.
