In this VLOG, Imtiaz Gul recounts his own experience at the Kandahar Airport, the scene of negotiations for the release of the hijacked Air India Flight 814 and its passengers. The saga of the hijacked plain came to an end on December 31, 1999, with the release of the Airbus and its 150 or so passengers including the crew. In return India released four pro-Kashmir militants from Tihar jail. India’s former foreign minister Jaswant Singh made the announcement at the Airport in the presence of dozens of local and foreign reporters, including BBC’s Kate Clark and VOA’s Ayaz Gul. Both had arrived at the airport on board a chartered aircraft from Kabul and were the exclusive reporters of the event until December 27 when the airport was opened to other media.
