Only three days after Amjad Islam Amjad’s death on 10th February 2023, Pakistan lost another famous thespian, literary icon Zia Mohyeddin who passed away at the age of 91 in Karachi today.
Amjad Islam Amjad was an important part of the literary world. He wrote dramas based on criticism. In 1975, his famous TV drama Khuwab Jaagtay Hain won an award. He has been honored with many national and international awards. He received the Pride of Performance in 1987 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1998. Later on, he also received the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 1998.
Only three days after Amjad Islam Amjad’s death, Zia Mohyeddin, who was born in Faisalabad, on June 20, 1931, passed away at the age of 91. Mohyeddin graduated from Government College, Lahore. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and on his return to Pakistan, he produced, directed, and acted in numerous plays. He was an internationally acclaimed actor who appeared in Pakistani and British cinema throughout his career. In the world of literature, he was also known for his exceptional compering, broadcasting, poetry and prose recitation, acting. Hundreds of students mentored by him are now working in the tv and film industries.
In 1970, he came to Pakistan and presented the now legendary Zia Mohyeddin Show on PTV. Later, he accepted the post of Director at the PIA Arts Academy. In 2005, Zia Mohyeddin set up the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi. In 2012, he was honored with Hilal-i-Imtiaz for Art.
The funeral prayers for the late thespian will be offered on Monday, 13 February 2023, in the Defence Phase 8 at Imam Bargah Yasrab after Zuhr.
