Overcoming Afghanistan's Isolation: Urgent Need for Shift in Taliban's Approach For Peaceful Coexistence

The Afghan Taliban’s hardline mentality has pushed Afghanistan further into isolation from the global community. Afghanistan has to change its current trend of extreme mentality and confrontational mindset towards peaceful coexistence and partnership with the international community.

It is deeply saddening that we have been killing, negating, and expelling the opponents declaring them communist terrorists, secularist fundamentalists, or agents of the enemy for the last nearly five decades. A huge scale of damage has been inflicted by such a devil perception of our social dignity and national prosperity and has severely defamed the Afghan status abroad.

Not based on our imaginary approach but if we scientifically could assess how far the world has gone towards the goal of progress، conquering the universe and why have we been starving in a dry and burning desert, moving towards a dark future helplessly and hopelessly? Would it be right to justify our devastating situations by declaring ourselves as the only good Muslim on the earth while accusing other Islamic states as puppets of the west? Would our leaders be able to get a certificate of acquittal in connection to our current critical situation?

Due to various reasons, including foreign invasions, civil wars, and significantly the existence of the extreme mentality in our society, we have unluckily lost the capability to adapt ourselves to the rapid development of the twenty-first century.

Being part of the international community while lacking development and remaining a backward society will negate our claims for being a proud and prosperous member of the world community and having the ability to face the difficult challenges of the modern era.

Contrary to the common perception, Islam within its characteristics is not opposed to modernization,  scientific education, development, and the creation of a developed international society based on commonality. It additionally urges Muslims to gain access to these developments. The problem behind our social backwardness is not Islam, but some elements with extreme beliefs in our backward society with a low level of literacy created the concept of confrontation rather than the conscience of peaceful coexistence at home and worldwide.

There are clear indications that the extreme mindset following their interpretation of Islam unintentionally supports the motives of those who advocate establishing a secular system in Afghanistan, eliminating the role of religion from politics in our country. Additionally, the level of spirituality and religious aspirations of the next generation is predictably being weakened by the suppressive behavior of those who claim to implement the Islamic system in the country.

We must admit that the consequences of such repulsive acts will certainly cause great spiritual damage to our society, but unfortunately, our ruler considers this problematic perspective, as propaganda of the enemy. Such a problematic breakthrough is well assessed by those who have the vision to predict the changes in our social mentality and to depict the intellectual priorities of the next generation in the era of scientific and technological revolution.

It is saddening that some of the visionaries in Afghanistan preferred to remain silent under the title of expediency, some do not speak about the unfavorable environment and do not raise their voices because of the unfavorable situation and some do not show their concerns because of being worried of losing their government privileges.

We live in the global village and move towards a shared destiny, but today our house in the global village is facing great challenges, and its future looks dark.  Some elements within the ruling group and beyond are fueling the fire of negating others and ignoring the potential threats to our homeland, from the flames of which they cannot remain safe though. Ignoring the aspirations of their people and the concerns of the world community is creating threats to the stability and development of the country.

Facing unprecedented challenges, Afghans are once again standing at a crossroads in their historical journey to either choose to regain their former proud status or get stuck in catastrophic challenges internally and externally. Their destiny depends on their grade of vision, the direction they prefer to go, their level of commitment to national interests, their spirit of mutual acceptance or strictly following the confrontational mentality.  looking for common ground or staying isolated, considering shared benefits or revolving around their benefits, including or negating others, finding a common language for understanding the world, or just blaming others.

To tackle the multiple internal and external challenges, It is time to listen to the alarming bells and adapt to the requirements of the new era.  No group or party including the Taliban can face the existing and possible future challenges alone.  The waves of history are strong enough to take them to the edge of victory and spin others to permanent failure. To compete with the caravan of developments of the twenty-first century,  raise our abilities to the level of coping with the storms of the twenty-first century, and build a prosperous and civilized society it is necessary to adopt the attitude of sharing and caring.

It seems deeply imperative to change the current political trend of extreme mentality in Afghanistan, turn towards moderation, focus on partnership instead of selfishness, and search to find common grounds to interact and communicate with our people and the world community at large.

It reflects our extreme mentality that to obtain Western support, the former regime illegally and undemocratically offered huge advantages and opportunities for a limited number of women with a western mindset, using the title of democracy and today’s rulers in compliance with their hardline mentality deprived millions of female students of their just and obligatory right of education.

Why do we always try to stop the screams of our oppressed people by putting our feet on their throats? Why can’t we try to make their wishes and expectations come true? Why do we always fail to fulfill our acknowledgments and commitments to the international community, why do we turn back towards our responsibilities?

Concentrating on the diversification of the Afghan society and the historical background of motivating armed proxies in Afghanistan it takes not much time and huge logistics to create insurgency groups in our country Looking at the failed background and the catastrophic outcome of the past decades of violence, one can easily come to the point that it is better to take all the segments and sects of the Afghan society aboard for a free and prosperous Afghanistan and react positively to the well-balanced interaction of the international community focusing on common interests to build a dignified and civilized Afghan society. Achieving this target will certainly need to
