Mercedes sales lower than Tesla

In the fourth quarter of 2018, Tesla sold 69,925 vehicles in the US, while Mercedes-Benz sold 66,542. It only took 8 years  for Elon Musk’s electric-vehicle startup to topple the company that invented their car 132 years ago. According to Atherton Research, Tesla was just 1,754 vehicles less of flooring the other German giant, BMW.

But surprisingly, it’s not just Mercedes-Benz who’s getting hit by Tesla’s rising sales. Other leading car manufacturers are also expected to be overshadowed by Elon Musk’s company in the near future.

Tesla has recently been through a rough patch, attributing to a series of tweets CEO Musk fired off about privatizing the company. The tweet caught the attention of millions of Musk’s followers, Tesla investors and myriad stakeholders.

Tesla has done a wonderful job building its brand – it is not going beyond automotive and entering the ‘lifestyle’ brand fray along with the Googles and Apples of the world.

All in all, having conquered the longtime enemy of electric vehicles, “range anxiety,” by achieving 300 miles on a battery charge, Tesla’s supremacy in batteries and in smart, autonomous and connected vehicles could help its Model Y crossover and pickup truck, both in challenging other vehicle makers such as Ford and GM, claims Su.
