After winning the FIFA Player of the Year Award a month ago, Lionel Messi, the veteran footballer received his Sixth Golden Boot giving his fan talking points in the Ronaldo vs. Messi debate.

Lionel Messi scored a total of 51 goals in 50 appearences in the 2018/19 season. These goals were scored in the Copa Del Ray, Supercopa, Spanish La Liga and the Champions League. Lionel Messi stands alone with his six golden boot awards, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and the likes with only four golden boot awards each.

In May, Messi was number 1 in terms of goals scored, however there was still a hope of competition from the young French superstar, Kylian Mbappe, of Paris Saint-Germain. As the season drew to a close, PSG’s loss in Champions League led to Messi playing more fixtures and broadening the goal difference against his counterparts that also included Robert Lewandowski, Mohammad Salal and Mbaye Digne.

Messi’s fans can now claim again that he is the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time), after leaving Ronaldo behind by a margin in the 2018/19 season. Messi is still humble after his victory, claiming that it has been a while since Barcelona won the Champions League, and he claims winning it would be the highest honour.
