The thought of not having to remove liquids from hand luggage when passing through security at the airports is a relief for regular travelers.
The Heathrow airport is breaking grounds by introducing high tech 3D scanners to make screening times more efficient, without compromising security.
This can significantly enhance the overall travelling experience. Airports and airlines are now looking to combine security and comfort in making the journey memorable.
Heathrow has been working with the Department for Transport since 2017 in order to test the technology and aims to support airports across the country in implementing their own trials over the coming months.
A £50 million upgrade, rolled out across all terminals by 2022, will see the new computed tomography (CT) security equipment which will show a 3D image of the contents of passengers’ hand luggage. While move will aid in eliminating the need for travelers to put their liquids in sealed plastic bags it will also positively contribute towards downsizing the amount of plastic used at airports.
The human race is undergoing the fourth industrial revolution and technology has had a lot positive impacts on our daily lives. It would be interesting to see how airports and airlines can use technology in the near future to improve security as well as the overall travelling experience.
