Financial and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan: Is USA to be blamed?

0

After establishment of Taliban regime in Kabul on August 15, the war ended but Afghanistan moved towards an economic and social crisis. Since the Taliban government isn’t recognized by the international community, Afghanistan’s $9bn are frozen and the Afghan government and traders are stripped of international banking. Even internally, Afghan banks are providing limited amounts of cash, which is eventually shrinking Afghanistan’s international business.

Despite European Union and United Nations having announced aid for Afghanistan and warning of a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan, the doors of international banking are closed on Afghanistan. What is Pakistan doing and why?

Though Pakistan has helped the suffering neighbor by exempting taxes on Afghan fruits and vegetables coming to Pakistan, allowed Afghan trucks to move up to Karachi, and given Afghan traders an opportunity to have shares in Pakistani businesses without needing an NOC from the ministry of interior, the government further aims to facilitate Afghan traders especially at the ports and border crossing points, so that Pakistan can reach Central Asian Republics through Afghanistan.

While discussing the concerns of Afghan traders and transport companies despite Pakistan’s confidence building measures Yaqoob Sheikh said that both sides should make efforts to facilitate traders and eliminate corruption so that businesses flourish.

Pakistan has been constantly assisting Afghanistan since the change in power structure, but it looks like the dream of political, social, and economic development in Afghanistan will remain a distant dream unless the global restrictions are lifted and the Taliban regime is accepted.

In this video, Sheikh Yaqoob, member parliament and a.very prominent businessman spoke to Matrix Media about this issue.
