Haroon Gul
There’s been a groundbreaking discovery and that is of a second moon or being referred to as the ‘mini moon’. This moon is around 6 to 11 feet in size but generating headlines everywhere. It is orbiting the Earth as we speak and researchers in Arizona captured an image that showed the mini moon which turns out to be a rock or an asteroid. Before it started orbiting the Earth it was pulled in by Earth’s gravity.
The minimoon has been discovered by Tucson astronomers. Kacper Wierchos and Theodore Pruyne discovered this on February 15, 2020. The real name of the minimoon is ‘2020 CD3.’ Due to the size of the minimoon we cannot see it from Earth but it’s fast movement may throw it out of our orbit. Some projections have shown this mini moon hanging around thanks to powerful telescopes. This discovery is important for us as it will help us better understand what is out there. Due to this discovery, it might help open a doorway for further space research.
