To discuss counter terrorism in the third round of talks, Pakistan, China and Afghanistan met in Islamabad on the 7th of September. The talks were held to condemn the existing terrorist activities in Afghanistan and to acknowledge peace efforts in this regard by both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The platform was used to discuss the improvement of Afghan relations and better connectivity within the region besides emphasizing the need to enhance peace and stability in the entire region. According to a joint press release by all three nations, “The three sides committed to promote measures to counter terrorists’ logistical capabilities including terror-financing, recruitment and training,” to ensure the suppression of all terrorist activities by local Afghani, and international terrorist organizations.
According to the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan, the three sides “reiterated their resolve to deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, connectivity, security and counter-terrorism.” The notion that through cooperation and increased communication, can we stabilise the law and order in the region, suppressing terrorist organizations, such as East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), was a major outcome of the trilateral dialogue.
