China’s rise in clean energy manufacturing is reshaping the global green transition.
China’s commanding position in clean energy manufacturing has sparked both acclaim and criticism. As the world accelerates toward decarbonization, Beijing’s industrial capacity has become central to the global green transition. Yet Western governments frequently accuse China of “flooding” markets with low-cost solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, and batteries. Such criticisms, however, overlook the larger picture: in the face of accelerating climate change, expanding access to affordable clean technologies is a global public good, not merely a trade issue.
Currently, China produces approximately 80% of the world’s solar panels, 60% of its wind turbines, 70% of electric vehicles, and 75% of batteries — all at significantly lower
