Recalling Pakistan’s “all-out” donations to the affectees of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, Chinese officials have promised to provide all possible support for the millions of flood-affected people.

“As iron brothers, our two countries have a tradition of helping each other in times of need. The Chinese people always remember when the Wenchuan earthquake hit China in 2008, Pakistan donated all the tents in storage to stricken areas. Now it is time for us to take the action to help,” an official announcement in Baijing said.

The Chinese government has been working on fast track to deliver 25,000 tents and other supplies to Pakistan. The first batch is expected to be airlifted to Pakistan tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. The Red Cross Society of China will provide USD 300,000 in emergency cash assistance to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society. The embassy has already distributed some food packages in Balochistan, and will continue to do so within all our capacity. All China Enterprises Association in Pakistan has donated 15 million rupees to Prime Minister’s flood relief fund. The sister provinces and sister cities in China are all mobilized to help. Further relief assistance is underway and we will also support in post disaster reconstruction. I am sure through our joint efforts, we will overcome the difficulties.

China will continue to promote bilateral cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation and against climate change. It is believed that under the leadership of the Pakistani government and with the joint help of the international community, the people in the disaster-hit areas will overcome the difficulties and life and work will go back to normal at an early date, a foreign ministry spokesperson said in Beijing.
