China Offshore Oil Engineering Corporation has delivered the largest offshore oil and gas platform to Saudi Aramco’s Marjan oilfield. Weighing over 17,000 tons, this project marks China’s first large-scale Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) deal with Aramco, boosting future collaboration with the Middle Eastern market.
In an exceptional achievement of engineering excellence, a Chinese company has achieved an innovative accomplishment by producing the largest marine oil and gas platform ever built for international use. The huge Marjan Tie Oil and Gas Gathering and Transportation platform built by the China Offshore Oil Engineering Corporation (COOEC) has been exported to Saudia Arabia’s offshore Marjan oilfield, setting China’s position in offshore engineering.
The large scale of this engineering marvel is encouraging. Spreading over an area equivalent to the size of 15 standard basketball courts, the platform’s total weight exceeds 17,000 tons, which is approximately the same as 17,000 cars. It is about 24 stories high. This construction will serve as a power base for the Marjan oilfield cluster, boasting a spectacular capacity to gather and transport 24 million tons of crude oil and 7.4 billion cubic meters of associated gas.
Completing this huge project was not easy, as the team of COOEC faced multiple technical matters. WEI LI, the Project Construction Manager of this Marjan Project, spotlighted the firm standards of requirements set by Saudi Aramco, for instance, the request for all the decks to have a pinpoint of 1: 100 incline, which asks for precise dimension control.
It holds significant importance as it marks COOEC’s first successful Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) project for Saudi Aramco. Moreover, it represents the first time, a Chinese company has undertaken a large-scale EPC project for a well-known Saudi Aramco in the offshore oil and gas corporation.
XU QIAN the Deputy Coordination Manager of the Marjan Project highlighted that this success has “paved the way for more cooperation between Chinese enterprises and the Middle Eastern market.”
This breakthrough opens the door to greater collaboration between Chinese companies and the thriving Middle Eastern market, reinforcing China’s role as an international engineering powerhouse.
