For nearly 2 million years humans have evolved. So has their anatomy. This meant that humans found themselves ascending into betterment. Our skulls have shrunken into a size considered normal today. The rest of the human skeleton also changed accordingly. However, John Hawks, a renowned paleoanthropologist has discovered that over the past 20,000 years, instead of evolving, our brains have in fact shrunken This is a disconcerting observation, considering that the size of our brains has also declined from 1500 cubic centimeters to 1350 cubic centimeters.
John Hawks, who studies the evolution of man from the beginning of time since we were apes, says if this continues to happen during the next 20,000 years, the human brain might reach the size that our ancestors, the Homo Erectushad, half a million years ago. This has recently been discovered, and it can affect how humans think, and their cognitive abilities over the years. This can potentially be a sign of deteriorating intelligence.
However, contrary to the belief that John Hawks and other paleontologists and paleoanthropologists hold, experts also argue that a small brain means better wiring, and a more efficient and tamed brain. However, at this point, this is pure conjecture and our scientists probably will have to study more for incisive understanding of this evolutionary phenomenon.
