The structure isn’t supposed to serve as a permanent residence. Instead, the property could function as a yoga studio, pool house, or outdoor grilling area.

Skyrocketing rents in major cities of the US have made tiny homes more popular. However, they’ve also become a way for wealthy buyers to customize their properties.

Amazon is penetrating this niché. It is selling a tiny-home kit that can be assembled in just eight hours – given that two people put it together. Designed for luxury as well as sustainability, these tiny models are generally outfitted with solar panels, convertible walls, mudrooms, and indoor swings.

The studio’s vendor, Allwood, says that the structure is intended for backyard use as an extension of a main kitchen, not a permanent residence. It could also function as a yoga studio or pool house.

The space is divided between a fully enclosed indoor area and an outdoor deck that’s suited for grilling. At 172 square feet, there’s not enough room for a restroom or kitchen, though Allwood makes some models that include these amenities.

The kit offers little else besides walls, windows, and a roof.

The studio’s vendor, Allwood, says the structure was initially intended for backyard use or as an extension of a main kitchen, but cannot serve as a permanent residence. It could also function as a yoga studio or pool house. Amazon, on the other hand, lists the model as an “ideal home office or guest house.”

This setup fails to accommodate a kitchen or a bathroom, however. Moreover, while everyday rain or snow won’t get inside this home, they are not secure for disasters like hurricanes. Â
