If you’re ever wondering why you can still have a slice of cheesecake after devouring three plates full of some mouth-watering biryani, steak, or karahi, science has an answer for you.
According to researchers from the Lovisenberg Diakonable Hospital, the reason for always having room for dessert is physiological and not psychological. Sugary and sweet foods stimulate your body in a way that expands your stomach – making room for some of that mouth-watering chocolate fudge brownie.
Your stomach does not keep itself confined to the space that it takes up. It relaxes and expands when the brain sends it a signal indicating the presence of glucose. This helps you make room for more food, not allowing your stomach to feel full, or bloated. This is how you can trick your body to eat more and have something sweet.
However, this is not an excuse to fill yourself up to the brim with a two-pound Mud cake. Moderation is always better. To use the words of Ian from Jurrasic Park, “You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn’t stop to think whether you should.”
