Response to an Untimely Death by Drowning

He now resents
the flow of time.
He would have it stand still
like the cold, dripping statue,
still.

He wants to dream
forever, a compulsive dreamer,
an addict, he piles swaying dreams
like cards until collapse.
As fire flares from ash,
dissolves politely,
so grows his dreams.

- Mike Litwin

Mike is a professional fishery biologist. He hales from a small town in Kansas, and lived on an island off the Texas coast for several years, during which he co-owned and operated a waterfront bar. Mike has been in Bloomington for 20 years and has worked for the federal government for the last 15. He began writing poetry over 25 years ago, abandoned it for a while, and is now trying to finish some of what he started.
