SUDDENLY
LIFE
Biopsy,
inquisitive probe, gaining entry.
The password, necessity.
Suddenly
life is 'baby's breath'
--gypsophila's minute tutus
on sprays of thread-fine stems;
moments of lace.
Snip, and one is severed.
I
am not ready.
I've hardly begun. But who's to say
there'll be no spring
from query to reprieve?
