Distractions

Lite-Brite bored,
Backlit holed screen waits for
pointed smooth pegs,
a plastic color spray insertion
on crackling black paper.

Etch-a-Sketch mystery,
draw lines without curves.
Deft twists pretend
a circle tangled.

Play-Doh creations
of yellow pretzels
and blue pancakes
longing for shape-making accessories
to expand clay boundaries

Disappearing Tinker Toys,
Legos' forefather,
wooden wheels and sticks
sprinkled in underwear drawers,
spilt around desk legs.
Elusive building materials,
never enough for structure.

Slinky metallic slip
ungripping stairs delivers
no lazy walk delight.
The rolling sprong of motion
hypnotizes sleep.

Blonde Barbie
fingers me female,
though her sexless perfection
I would never attain.
Gifted instead with clones
and Skipper when she was on sale.
