Dan
Johnson, Purdue Forestry graduate, began poetry after immersion
in Kerouac, Snyder, McClure, pre-Hellenistic Greeks, Idaho forest and
Indiana rivers.
His
subject matter often mirrors Gary Snyder's concern for place and natural
rhythms but expressed with the volatile passion of early Michael McClure.
He
is a self-taught, non-academic poet who approaches poetry more as an
explorer in a lush wilderness rather than a forester taking measure;
for his poetry - like his views on wilderness - is of a value-in-itself
and best expressed without thought of form or use.
MATRIX
is proud to present four poems by local poet Dan Johnson:
Voices in my head,
Winter,
State of Affairs
and Where do we go from here?
