Welcome to Matrixmag.com

Poetry Editor and Co-founder of MATRIX, Tony Brewer welcomes you to our site. You may reach him through email.

2002 A.D.

Welcome to the site, our presence on the Web, a little bit of everything we do: poetry, audio, visual art, publishing, contests, performances, slams. There's a lot here because a lot is happening! We've been busy in our community, you've seen. Change is in the air too, as you know. Thanks for being here. The open mics, the Matrix Poetry Series at the Waldron, the Words on Wheels contest, and the slams all have revealed to us some brilliant but heretofore unknown writers and artists -- people with ideas and plans. You'll see.

BIG NEWS IN THE BIG CITY
My cohort, my accomplice through it all, co-founder John Pearson, graduated with a degree in Arts Administration and moved in December 2001 to New York City where he has taken an internship at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Our loss adds much to the City -- we wish John well -- but I miss his insight and fiery enthusiasm, his Hungarian-by-way-of-North Carolina world view, counterpoint to my bumpkin-beatnik Stoicism.

To John's credit, the org hasn't slowed down a bit. We haven't had time. In the vast arts scene in Bloomington at the close of the twentieth century, Matrix became an integral part of a bustling DIY art-lit revolution, and continues to sponsor, foster, and inspire adventures in wide-ranging perceptions of art. We weren't the first, and we're hardly the only game in town. But we think you'll find us eager to play, whatever the house rules.

Have fun.

We hope you'll stay with us through this century as well.
