EXHIBITION
To fill the void left by the publication, MATRIX presented a week-long
art exhibition, poetry and multi-media performance space February
14-19, 2000 at 119 E. Kirkwood.
Here
we utilized every resource and contact we had acquired over the
past year, and the results were extremely gratifying and successful
by any measure.
Throughout
the week hundreds of people came to view art work by Michael Monar,
L. Christine Williams, Ruth Droppo, Dan Baucco, Greg Raisman, Susan
Yount, and Amos Kennedy; to see films by Eve Hermann and Kyle McIntosh;
and to hear music by Chapman Stick player Ty Connally, and poetry
from Marc McKee, Paul Kirby, John Pearson and myself, special guests
John Skuldt and Cynthia King, and poetry bands The Saboteurs and
Coup Coup Daddy.
At
last, we had provided a space -- albeit temporarily -- where we
could display art for more than a couple of hours one night a month,
and feature some of the newest and most unique literary performers
in Bloomington. We also learned that we are understaffed to manage
an event of such scope and duration.
Many
details were left undone, including, unfortunately, adequate advertising.
Still, MATRIX managed to bring together a wide array of artists
and writers from the IU and Bloomington community. And, like the
publication, we are already planning to do it again.
